leaving Saint Malo, after Rothéneuf, the road will lead you towards the
peninsula of “la Guimorais”, famous point du Grouin, Cancale and
Cherrueix. |
 Between Saint Malo and le Mont - Cancale
Guimorais Peninsula: Nature regains its rights; the coast is wild on
this side. The only built installations are some hiking trails. Take
note that these places inspired Colette who used to spend her holidays
there between 1911 and 1926. La pointe du Grouin: It is somehow the end
of the lands of Ille et Vilaine. Facing the winds and face to the sea,
this rock culminates to 49 metres above the sea. The ancient coastguard
path permits to go for a short walk around the Rock. The fronting |
“Les
Landes” Island is an ornithological reserve. With very sharp sight or
binoculars you can perceive cormorants, seagulls and sometimes
dolphins.
Cancale: This city is divided into 3 distinct parts: the upper city
(tradesmen, ship-owners), the port (fishermen) and the hamlets (sailors
and peasants). In spite of the tourist frequentation, Cancale remains a
fishing port of character. The great wealth of Cancale remains the
Ostréiculture. Cherrueix: Last station on the coast, the Mount of Saint
Michel de Visu becomes visible. Stretched along the beach and facing
the winds, Cherrueix is the European capital of Sand Yachting. |
