La Guerche de Bretagne - Intérieur du dolmen It developed under the influence of the castle and the Notre Dame collegial. It thrived thanks to the linen markets and its geographical position at the crossroads of several duchies. La Guerche preserved its tradition of markets and fairs. Today, it shelters one of the biggest markets of France The dolmen de la Roche aux Fées is about fifteen kilometres from la Guerche on the commune of Essé. It is one of the most significant megalithic monuments of Brittany “Bretagne” by reputation and |
also by size. Indeed, it is 20 meters long, 6 meters width and 4 meters height. Composed of 41 stone blocks (some weigh more than 45 tons!). Its construction would go back to 3000 years before our era but the utility and the construction of this monument remain a mystery. At the interior, the visitor can distinguish 4 rooms delimited by 5 pillars. According to a local legend, fairies would have brought these rocks and drop some that remained visible since the ancient times on the road of Retiers |
