| This
fishing port is one of the Breton culture capitals. Ideally situated
between the Crozon peninsula to the north and the Sizun Cape to the
south. Two significant natural protections face to the tumults of the
ocean. |
 Douarnenez - Pittoresque
city of Douarnenez shelters a population of approximately 15 000
inhabitants, it is thus the fifth city of Finistère. Indeed too much
for a simple fishing port. The city thrived thanks to the port which
nourished the population and traded with the outside world. The city
thrived thanks to the linen and flax fabrics. Unfortunately this
gainful trade declined during the agitated times of the League then of
the Revolution. Consequently, the port of Douarnenez will owe its

transformed in the canning facilities of the city. The avant-garde
political choices of the city remain among its main characteristics.
Indeed, the first fishermen trade union is created there; in 1921 it
elects the first communist mayor of France and goes to the point of
electing a woman in the town hall council in 1924. This election will
be cancelled since women had not the voting rights at the time. To
finish, Douarnenez is today the city of lovers of pleasance and of
beautiful ships. |
