The countryside of Vitré conceals hidden treasures to discover. A rich patrimony as significant as the town centre

Champeaux:
This small village in the west of Vitré shelters an exceptional church
definitely worth visiting. This Church was built in the 15th century
and conveys how powerful was the Espinay family. The building is
impressive for this small village, but it is mainly in the inside that
this church reveals its charms with about fifty wood carved stalls.
However, the most interesting part of the visit remains the stained
glasses dating from the 16th century. Espinay Castle: Two kilometers
to
the south of the church, the castle is another vestige of the
seigniorial family. It is not visited but it can be contemplated. The
castle of “Rochers Sévigné”: It can be visited with the same ticket as
that of “de Vitré” castle. The architecture is fine and elegant. Madam
de Sévigné likes to spend time there to rest from Parisian life at the
court of Louis 14. She wrote there exactly 267 of her famous letters.
The castle comprises portraits of Mme de Sévigné and her family,
gardens. La Cantache Barrage: Protected natural site and ornithological
natural reserve.
PS : The city of Vitré dedicated its media library to Madame de Sévigné and maintains the memory of the epistolary in château-musée of Rochers-Sévigné.
