Pont Aven - Gauguin The pictorial history of Pont Aven starts in 1860 when the painters are attracted by the new fashion of the Breton subjects. From 1870, it is a real American colony which settles in the area. Intrigued by this success, Gauguin arrives in 1886.Il will meet Emile Bernard there and will both give birth to an Avangardist style known as the Pont Aven school. Pont Aven also hosts another great Breton artist in the literary field. Visiting the municipal museum remains the adequate way to better |
approach the charms that attracted all these artists to the area, this museum recalls the history of the painters and shelters exposures of great quality. Otherwise, the hikers can go directly to the spots immortalized by these painters. Such as “le bois d’Amour” (the wood of Love) and “la chapelle de Trémalo” (the Trémalo chapel). |
